Marking the Legal Services Day, various training and awareness programmes,, including legal literacy camps, have been organised in the city on Friday. The Supreme Court of India started the Legal Services Day to be celebrated in the country on November 9 in 1995 to offer help and support to the weaker section of the people, particularly women, disabled persons, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, industrial workers, people in custody, children, victims of human trafficking and of natural calamities.  The objective is to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor litigants for a fair justice delivery.

A high court lawyer Lalit Miglani dwelt on the domestic violence, cyber crime and traffic rules while addressing the students in Delhi Public School here. He told them about how they can seek legal help in exigencies. “At early age, the students should be aware of the constitutional rights and laws related to them. There is also need to be aware of the laws prohibiting child labour.

Lok Adalat is a boon for the rural areas where many para-legal volunteers can bridge the gap between the common men and the legal services institutions.

These community-based volunteers selected from villages and other localities can provide basic legal services to the common people,” he said.

Speaking of the objectives of the day, advocate Ranvir Sharma said that the aim of celebrating Legal Services Day is to offer free legal services to the people from the of weaker sections of the society.

“The day is marked to raise awareness of free legal aids made available for them.  The legal practitioners must know that it is the legitimate right of all citizens to access to the law for justice, irrespective of background or financial status,” he said.
