Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday virtually launched the BJP’s campaign for the next general elections in Odisha calling upon people of the State to “bring about a change” by throwing out the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD Government.
Speaking at a public meeting at Jharsuguda after inaugurating the local airport, Modi said Odisha is now going through a “Bhrastatantra” (corrupt regime) with a PC (percentage or bribe) culture ruling the roost. Whether it is sapling plantation or road construction, the projects are marred by scams, he alleged.
Modi wondered how can there be development in Odisha when there are allegations of corruption and scams against the State Government!
Claiming that the BJP-led Government at the Centre has provided assistance of nearly Rs 2 lakh crore to Odisha, Modi questioned where is all the money going as there has been no development on the ground.
In fact, Modi, during his one-day visit to the State, had earlier at Talcher begun attacking the BJD Government on issues like non-inclusion of the Ayushman scheme and poor implementation of the Swachhta Mission in the State and the Centre’s lion’s share financial contribution to the State’s Re 1-kg-rice programme. But he grew more aggressive against the State Government in his Jharsuguda speech.
