SDMC identifies eight sites for commercial parking

To address the problem of long traffic jams due to illegal parking of commercial vehicles and private buses on various roads, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has identified eight sites to park private buses and trucks. A decision to this effect was passed in a meeting of the Standing Committee on Tuesday. 

The Standing Committee  has also approved parking rates and amount of monthly pass for parking of these vehicles on identified sites across the jurisdiction of the SDMC.

Chairperson of Standing Committee Shikha Rai said that commercial vehicles and private buses are being parked in large numbers in different places on various roads resulting in long traffic jams and difficulties to the common men. The move to provide parking space is aimed at ensuring seamless traffic especially during night.

Rai informed that the civic body has identified sites at Lodhi Road, Outside Tihar Jail, Saket, Janakpuri, Janak Cinema, Appu Ghar, Jasola, Dwarka Sector-13 & Sector-14 Metro Station and at Iscon Temple.

Explaining it further, she said that for parking of commercial vehicles buses and trucks etc Rs 80 will be charged for up to two hours. While Rs 120 would be charged for parking these vehicles for 2 to 5 hours, Rs 300 would be payable for 5 to 10 hours and Rs 500 for parking between 10 to 24 hours.  Further, the monthly pass for parking of these vehicles will be Rs 9,900, she added.

The Chairperson also said that for parking of autos and other equivalent vehicles Rs 60 would be charged for up to two hours, Rs 90 for 2 to 5 hours, Rs 200 for 5 to 10, Rs 300 for 10 to 24 hours and Rs 6,000 would be charged for issuing monthly passes.

Raid said that parking of commercial vehicles at designated eight sites will go a long way in overcoming traffic jams and addressing the problems of common men.
