The New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has launched a “Plogging Drive” as a part of its Swachchhta-hi-Sewa Pakhwada, whereby awareness is generated among the people about the habit of picking up the litter from road side while walking or jogging.
While launching the plogging drive Secretary, Durga Shankar Mishra, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) said while walking is good for the health of individual picking up litter is good for the health of the city, country and planet. He further said the idea behind plogging is new environment-conscious fitness trends where people pick up rubbish while they are on the walk, jogging or run.
The plogging drive covered the route of Janpath, Tolstoy Marg, Sansad Marg, Patel Chowk, Rafi Marg, Rajender Prasad Road and culminated at Ambedkar Vatika opposite National Archive, Ambedkar Bhawan, Rajender Prasad Road.
A dedicated team was flagged off by Secretary. “Plogging is an eco-friendly fitness trend, it should make India as a Swachh Bharat to Swasth Bharat,”, he added.
NDMC Secretary, Rashmi Singh said that if people can do something different that's good for their health and also good for our environment, it gives all of us an motivation to get out of our homes and walk for cause. She added that while jogging helps our body to stay fit in this activity collecting the trash from the ground helps to keep our environment clean.
Secretary, NDMC Singh inform that 4th anniversary of Swachh Bharat Mission is being celebrated by NDMC from 15 September to 2 October as “Swachhta-hi-Sewa Pakhwada” in which NDMC is creating awareness amongst the citizen from all walk of life through the various activities like plogging drive.
She further said that NDMC ensured the community participation in the plogging drive-by involving the students, residents, shopkeepers, traders, visitors, tourists, caretakers of the government, non-government or private buildings etc.
The drive was attended by Secretaries, Additional Secretaries, Financial Advisors, Joint Secretaries, Directors, Deputy Secretaries and senior officials of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and its organizations like CPWD, NBCC, HUDCO, DUAC, DDA and NDMC. They participated in different teams for different roads for plogging.
