Happy-go-lucky girl

Actor Shraddha Kapoor is riding high on the success of Stree and is ready with her next, Batti Gul Meter Chalu

She’s sitting pretty on the success of Stree and is looking forward to Batti Gul Meter Chalu. She hardly cares for the lows in between and is still gushy about savouring a gulaab jamun. And disregarding the grammar of public appearances, she chooses to have one then and there. But then Shraddha Kapoor sparkles only because she is easy-going and enjoys her work in the moment. “I’ve never focussed on results. Hits and misses are not in your hands. When a movie succeeds, it feels great. At the same time, I can’t be complacent about it. I think it was really difficult when my first two films didn’t do well. Even after that it was never a cake walk and that’s when I understood that one should not be dependent on how a movie turns out. One should only focus on how hard you work and how best you can be at what you’re doing. Take every chance you get in life. I find it shocking yet amazing that Stree has become a blockbuster,” the actor told us.

Playing the happy-go-lucky Nauti in Batti Gul Meter Chalu, the 31-year-old actor said she is glad it comes after Stree. “There was some kind of mystery which was created for my character. For Nauti, there is no such type of mystery. She is very vocal and a fun person to be with. I think it’s so fascinating that with each film, you get to play a different character and I had a great time playing Nauti,” the actress said. Shraddha, who is up for experimenting with all genres and roles, said, “As an actor, I want to try all kinds of roles. I do not want to be boxed in even if it means taking risks. My whole idea is to actually to get out of my comfort zone and make a determined effort. I want to be a part of really memorable films.”

Each film has its own difficulties, challenges, preparations, and demands.  The actor said that she wouldn’t classify things like, “that film would be  easier or this film would be more difficult.” She wants to keep improving herself and wants to do better than she was doing yesterday.  She wants to put her best foot forward.

Shraddha, daughter of Shakti Kapoor, who is better known for his villainous and comic roles in Bollywood, said that family references didn’t work for her at all. “I had to audition everytime and have also faced so much rejection. I have not actually had a quintessential star kid debut. I had to earn my part,” added she.

And for somebody who has gotten linked to co-stars and industrywallahs consistently, she feels each is to his own. “I feel that our society is evolving. Nowadays so many people are getting married in their later years. Living in is legal even in India. One must do whatever makes one happy and not subscribe to anybody’s expectations.”

As for her co-actor Shahid Kapoor with whom she has done her second film, she says, “It’s really nice to be back again. When you know someone, there’s a comfort zone that comes in, and he’s a fantastic actor, sincere and gives his everything to whatever he does. It was really nice working with him again,” Shraddha shared.
