Bulgaria indicts suspect in journalist killing
Sofia: Bulgarian prosecutors on Friday indicted a man accused of the rape and murder of a television journalist and the court hearing the case ordered him to remain in custody pending trial. Severin Krasimirov, 20, was handcuffed and under heavy guard when he appeared before the regional court in the northern town of Ruse.
Four killed in road accident in Pakistan
Peshawar: At least four members of a family were killed in a road accident on Friday after the vehicle they were travelling in was hit by a dumper in northwest Pakistan, said police. The incident happened in Mansehra district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province when a dumper went out of driver’s control and dashed into a taxi the family members were travelling in.
Turkey to host 4-nation summit on Syria crisis
Ankara: A Turkish official says a summit between the leaders of Turkey, France, Germany and Russia will be held in Istanbul this month to discuss the conflict in Syria. Presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin, in a written statement Friday said a summit will take place on October 27.
Taiwan: will continue to push for papal visit
Taipei: Taiwan said Friday it would continue to push for a papal visit to the island after the Vatican turned down its most recent invitation.
Vice president Chen Chien-jen made the invitation during an audience with the pope Sunday as Taiwan seeks to deepen ties with its only ally in Europe after the Holy See signed a historic deal with Beijing.
FBI leaker jailed for four years
Washington: A former FBI agent who leaked internal documents showing how the agency used racial profiling in counter-terror investigations was sentenced to four years in prison Thursday. In the third case this week to underscore the Trump administration’s determined crackdown on media leaks, Terry Albury, a 17-year FBI veteran and son of an Ethiopian refugee, was ordered to prison for 48 months by a Minnesota judge after pleading guilty in the case.
