With the arrest of two persons, the Delhi Police on Thursday busted a syndicate involved in trafficking and supplying illegal arms and ammunitions to criminals in the National Capital, Uttar Pradesh (UP), Madhya Pradesh (MP) and Rajasthan. Police said that they have also recovered 26 country-made pistols of .32 bore along with 26 extra magazines, which were concealed under thick layer of Vanaspati Ghee cans, from the possession of the duo.
The accused have been identified as Jitender alias Jeetu (25), a resident of district- Bhind in MP and Raj Bahadur (30), a resident of district Agra, UP.
According to Pramod Singh Kushwaha, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Special Cell, on September 23, specific inputs were received that Jitender, along with an associate, would come near Crematorium on Ghazipur Road in a Mahindra Bolero Car for delivering illicit weapons.
"Acting on the inputs a trap was laid and the duo was arrested. During the search of the vehicle, two plastic cans of Vanaspati Ghee were recovered. On examine the cans, police team found a total of 26 pistols of .32 bore calibre with extra magazines wrapped with polythenes and tied with cotton strings," said the DCP.
