A fun ride all through

de de pyaar de

*ing: Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Rakul Preet Singh, Javed Jaffrey, JIimmy Shergill

Rated: 6/10

It’s not the age gap but a generation gap says Samir (played by Javed Jaffery) When Ajay Devgn’s character, Ashish, who is 50, falls for a 25-year-old, played by Rakul Preet Singh. For once the good part is that the film doesn’t try to go into the morals of an older man falling in love with a younger one expect poke fun at the whole situation. Another good is that the lady in question is just as invested emotionally.

It is another thing that Ashish is only separated with Manjana played by Tabu for 18 years and neither have felt the need to file for a divorce nor are they opposed to it. This is bound to lead to some high drama and funny situations when you throw in Jimmy Shergill who plays Suresh Khurana and is besotted with Manjana. His attempts to woo her are obvious when he brings in bagh ke apples. It is funny when you see him  force her to tie a rakhi to Ashish.

Ajay Devgn as Ashish is really good. He plays his character to a T. He is in top physical form and therefore, when he woos Rakul Preet Singh, it doesn’t come across as strange. Remember Cheeni Kum starring Tabu and Big B? — it was definitely sweet. There is chemistry between Devgn and Singh and that means that the audience is not left feeling uncomfortable. The way that Singh compliments Devgn is cute and sweet.

Then there is Tabu. She excels here. She is the one responsible and her entry in each shot and comic timing is great to watch. She is suave and charismatic all through.

The film falters when it tries hard to find a balance between modern thinking and traditional values. But on the whole, DDPD is a light romance that makes for a one time watch.
