Haddin joins SRH as asst coach

Zurich: Indian Premier League (IPL) side Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday announced former Australian vice captain and wicketkeeper Brad Haddin as their assistant coach. The former IPL champions made the announcement via their social media handles. Haddin thus joins Trevor Bayliss in the SRH backroom staff. Bayliss was named the SRH head coach in July, replacing Tom Moody in the role. Haddin replaces Simon Helmot, who was assistant to Moody. Bayliss has previously led Kolkata Knight Riders to two IPL titles between 2012 and 2015, while Haddin was with KKR as a player in 2011. Haddin has prior coaching experience with Australia, having been appointed fielding coach of the side in 2017 after coaching Australia A that year.

33 probables announced for camp

New Delhi: Hockey India on Monday named the 33 core probables' list for the upcoming junior women's national coaching camp which will focus on preparing the team for a tri-nation tournament involving Australia and New Zealand to be held Down Under later this year. The probables will undergo a training and conditioning camp till September 14 under the supervision of coach Baljit Singh Saini. "We have called up all the core probables for the national camp keeping an eye on the three-nation tournament that is scheduled for the end of this year," Saini said. "We will be focused on making sure that the players keep their fitness levels high, and are in the rhythm of playing intense hockey at the highest level. We will also have the chance to identify the key areas where we need to work on, and we have enough time together to make sure that we work on those areas before the tournament in Australia later this year," he added.

Danni Wyatt scripts WCSL history

London: Danni Wyatt has scripted history as she became the first ever English player to score a ton in the Women's Cricket Super League (WCSL). Playing for Southern Vipers, Wyatt scored 110 off 60 balls. Meanwhile, her score is the second-highest of all time in the competition, after Suzie Bates' 119 in 2017. "It was a tricky wicket," Wyatt was quoted as saying after the game. "Me and Suzie [Bates] struggled a bit in the first few overs. It was one of those wickets where you have to just back yourself and slog it really. I came off the pitch thinking, 'Wow, how did I manage that?' "Once I was in, I wasn't thinking and just wanted to hit boundaries. Anything up there and full I tried to get my hands through. I've not hit a 100 for about 15 months so it's nice to get another one!" she added.

dani Alves scores winner on debut

Sao Paulo: Brazil veteran Dani Alves scored the winning goal on his debut for Sao Paulo on Sunday, weeks after signing a three-year deal with the club. Alves, 36, found the back of the net in the 40th minute to score the only goal of the game against Ceara. Alves and Spanish international Juanfran, 34, are the stars for Sao Paulo, who snapped up both players after their contracts with European clubs expired. Alves' return to Brazil after 17 years playing for top clubs in Europe has had a big impact on his home country.

Rain spoils Duleep Trophy opener

Bengaluru: Heavy overnight rain washed out the entire third day's play in the Duleep Trophy opener between India Blue and India Green here on Monday. The rain resulted in a wet outfield and the conditions didn't improve through the day, forcing the officials to call off play without a ball being bowled for the second straight day. The second day's proceedings on Sunday had been washed out due to wet ground conditions. With only 49 overs having been bowled so far and no innings completed, the match is headed for a stalemate. India Green had reduced India Blue to 112 for 6 in 49 overs on a truncated opening day on Saturday.
