Women and child development department launched ‘Suposhit Janani, Vikasit Dharni’ drive in all the districts of Chhattisgarh on the occasion of the International Women’s Day on Friday.
The initiative aimed at improving nutrition level of pregnant women and new-mothers through different programmes. The fortnight-long drive will conclude on March 22.
During the period, ‘Nutrition Fortnight’ will also be organised.
The district level officials have been directed to ensure better participation of women in the programme which will be held in the form of a fair.
During the programme, competition on nutrition, questionnaire session, music programme along with films and video exhibition will be organised.
Gram Sabha at Panchayat, bicycle rally, nutrition rally and foot march will also be organised to create awareness. Meetings are to be held in coordination with different departments.
Prime Minister Maternity Benefit Programme is operational since 2017 wherein the pregnant women and new mothers are facilitated for improvement of their nutritional level. Under the scheme, each woman is provided Rs 5000 in three installments for each first alive child. The pregnant women and lactating mothers’ working in any of the central, state or the public sector units are extended all the benefits as per the rules.
