`Yellow Line Campaign’ to keep students away from tobacco

Chhattisgarh government’s Health department will commence a three-day special drive ‘Yellow Line Campaign’ from May 29 to 31 across the state near educational institutions to keep these institutions tobacco-free and refrain young generation from getting addicted to tobacco.

Health department has issued a letter to all districts Chief Medical and Health Officers to ensure maximum participation of common people in the campaign.

Health department officials said under The Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 (COTPA, 2003) will undertake special drive from May 29 to 31, 2019. Already in state, from May 15 to June 15, the ‘Non-communicable diseases prevention and treatment month’ is underway. The check up of lungs has been included in the drive.

Similarly, on May 31 at Ambuja Mall, state-level painting, essay writing and debate to be organised from 1.00 PM.

The painting competition to be held in three different categories for students from class 5 to 12th, and essay competition for class 11th and 12th students. Debate event will be held for medical college students.

Prizes would be given to the winners.

Health department officials intimated the drive is part of ‘World No Tobacco Day’ observed around the world every year on May 31. The focus of World No Tobacco Day 2019 is on ‘Tobacco and lung health’. The world-wide campaign is to increase awareness on the negative impact of tobacco on people’s lung health, from cancer to chronic respiratory disease, the fundamental role lungs play for the health and well-being of all people.
