To eradicate blindness, the State Government has decided to introduce mobile eye treatment centres in 10 more districts and put up permanent eye treatment facility in 50 more Community Health Centres (CHCs).
It was revealed at a review meeting on the “Sunetra’ yojana held under the chairmanship of Health and Family Welfare Secretary here on Wednesday.
It was revealed that 8,14,483 school students had checked up their eyes and, of them, 25,360 were found to have problems in vision. A total of 8,929 students were provided spectacles free of cost.
Now, 183 CHCs have eye treatment facility and six eye banks are working in the State. As many as 712 persons had donated eyes and 514 patients got eye transplantation by September this year. Cataract operation was conducted on 49,328 persons.
Among others, Empowerment Committee Chairman Dr TP Dash, Sunetra CEO Yamini Sarangi, Additional Secretary Sushant Mohapatra, Joint Secretary Smita Biswal and Public Health Director Dr Ajit Mohanty were present.
