Two persons were killed and 15 others sustained injuries after a picnic bus collided head on with an oil tanker near Kayakuda under the Jujomura police station near Sambalpur town on Saturday.
One of the deceased was identified as Shuka Das (48) of Gopalpur village under Balichandrapur block in Jajpur district. Sources said around 40 people from Balichandrapur area had gone to Hirakud dam for a picnic on the day.
While returning, the bus they were travelling in was hit by an oil tanker near Kayakuda on Sambalpur-Cuttack National Highway-55. While one person died on the spot, all injured were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital.
On receiving information, police reached the spot and began an investigation into the incident.
Later, Sambalpur district Collector Samarth Verma met the injured persons at the hospital.
