Agonising wait for CT scan machine of GDMC hospital

Thursday, 10 October 2019 | PNS | Dehradun

The patients visiting the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital is deprived of the services of the Computer assisted Tomography (CT) scan machine from last seven months.

The lone CT scan machine of department of radiology of GDMC hospital which developed snag in the last week of February has not been replaced or repaired yet.

An amount of Rs 40 Lakh was expected to the spent on repair of this important radio diagnostic machine.

After deliberations, the hospital administration decided to replace the old error prone machine with a modern CT scan machine. However the new machine however has not arrived yet.  More than 40 CT scans are done by this machine daily and in absence of this facility the patients are forced to visit expensive private hospitals and diagnostic centres to get the CT done.

In absence of CT scan facility in the hospital the doctors in some cases were advising MRI scans for the patients resulting in extra load on the MRI machine.

The Principal of the GDMC, Dr Ashutosh Sayana said that the machine would soon get installed at GDMC hospital.

It is pertinent to mention here that the GDMC administration has been demanding installation of Coronary CT angiography machine for a long time now and many proposals for it was sent by it for the state administration.

The existing CT scan machine was installed in the hospital in the year 2004 and as per the norms this machine has become obsolete and needed immediate replacement.

The team of the Medical Council of India (MCI) in its visit to the hospital had also pointed that the CT scan machine of the hospital is old and do not confers to the norms prescribed for a medical college.
