Protesting against the change in the recruitment process of the primary teachers, the members of the Federation of Bachelor of Education (B.Ed), Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) Qualified Unemployed Youths held a demonstration near the state secretariat on Thursday.
The members of the federation assembled at the protest site near Parade Ground on the day and thereafter marched towards the state secretariat as per their earlier plan.
The protesters were stopped by the policemen near Kanak Chowk.
On being stopped, the agitators squatted on the spot and engaged in sloganeering against the state government for ignoring their demands.
The president of the federation Arvind Rana said that thousands of the unemployed B Ed –TET qualified candidates are agitated on the unwarranted change incorporated in the selection criteria of the teachers.
He warned that the federation would intensify its agitation in time to come if their one- point demand of following the old pattern in the selection of the primary teachers is not accepted.
Meanwhile, the sit- in by the agitated members of the federation at the education directorate completed its 142nd day on Thursday.
The members of the federation are annoyed over the state government’s decision to change the ‘ Teacher recruitment guideline’ which dispensed with the practice of following a pattern in the selection of the primary teachers in which the year- wise seniority of doing the B.Ed degree was considered paramount in making the merit list for selection.
