Belgium delegation to explore collaboration on Smart City projects

A twelve member delegation under the leadership of The Mayor of the Lubin city in Belgium, Mohammed Radiony is on a study tour of Gwalior to explore further collaboration in various Smart City Projects.

Lubin and Gwalior have been working together on various Smart City Projects under the aegis of the International Urban Cooperation.

The IUC facilitates bilateral cooperation between cities to enable them to tackle various pressing challenges.

Under the IUC program cities and regions in Europe have entered into partnership with Indian cities on various developmental projects. 

In this connection Gwalior has been paired with the Belgium city, Lubin.

Mayor Mohammed during his meeting with the Gwalior Mayor Vivek Shewalkar, Smart City Project CEO, Mahip Tejaswi and other officials expressed satisfaction over the implementation of various Smart City Projects.

He said that Gwalior, being an important historical place on the world map has great potential as a world tourist centre and assured all support in the field of urban planning as well as heritage conservation.

The Belgium delegation also held detailed discussions with their Gwalior counterparts on various issues related to Smart City Project, especially use of new technology for sewage treatment, including solid waste management and ways for generating energy.

The delegation from Lubin also shared their expertise in the field of traffic, garbage management, water supply, sanitation and drainage.

The two delegations also discussed on ways to implement innovative technologies to ease the various civic issues.

The officials of the Gwalior Smart City Project gave a presentation to apprise the Belgium delegation about the progress of the various projects.

After the presentation and the meeting with the Smart City Project officials, the Belgium delegation took cycles from the Public Bike Sharing Centre situated at City Centre and went on a tour of the city. The delegation visited the Jal Vihar, Boat Club, Gwalior Fort and Maharaj Bada.
