In a sensational daylight murder in Hapur, a senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party was sprayed with bullets by unidentified assailants on Monday.
Senior officers along with local police rushed to the spot to supervise investigations and registered a case in this regard.
As per reports, BJP zonal secretary Rakesh Sharma was going to his work place, Janata Inter College, in Chajjupur on Monday morning. As he passed Samana crossing, unidentified persons stopped their car near Sharma’s motorcycle and stopped him. Before the BJP leader could sense any foul play, the car occupants opened indiscriminate fire as a result of which he collapsed.
After the miscreants fled the scene, some passers-by came to the victim’s help but by then he had passed away.
They later informed the police control room after which the police and senior officers reached there.
The victim’s body was sent for autopsy.
The police said that Sharma was a resident of Karanput Jat (Hapur) and was an employee of Janata Inter College in Chajjupur area of Hapur.
After the killing, a large number of BJP workers converged at the hospital where the body was kept for autopsy, and raised slogans against police apathy.
