A chain snatchers and looters gang was busted by the district police, who were involved in a series of loot and gold chain snatching.

Three gang members including kingpin of the gang were arrested, identified as Sarfuddin Ansari alias Batala (kingpin) his wife Sakina and Rinku Ansari resident of Bharra Basti Chas, said DSP Bokaro Gayan Ranjan.

Police recovered a 9 mm loaded pistol and Rs one lakhs fifteen thousand cash and gold ornaments from their possession, said the DSP. 

“During interrogation, Sarfuddin admitted several chains snatching crime and loot cases in which he was involved. They confessed their crime and told to police they have a gang of at least 10 peoples, involved in thefts and snatching from pedestrians, scooty riders especially women in the city areas of Bokaro," said he.

Sarfuddin also confessed their involvement in snatching a gold chain from Pratima Sahay, wife of M M P Sinha DSP Bokaro (traffic) near the ex-chief minister Shibu Soren's residence at sector 1 C while she was on an evening walk in the street a few weeks earlier. After snatching chain from DSP's wife they also snatched a gold chain from Vimla Devi near Sector 3 near lake road, said Gayan Ranjan.

“We have received vital information, hunt for the others are on, we are conducting raids,” added the DSP.

His gang was also active in Chandrapura, BTPS, Nawadih including other parts of the district. “Sarfuddin was wanted in several cases (including killing) since long by the police. Now he was arrested on a tip-off,” said the DSP.
