Monday, 18 February 2019 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik laid foundation-stone for the “Odisha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre” at Ratagarh in Barang in the presence of Tata Trusts chairman Ratan Tata on Sunday.

“The State Government is committed towards cancer treatment and has started chemo programme at each District Headquarters Hospital. All centres are connected to the Acharya Harihar Cancer Centre in our commitment to provide affordable cancer treatment. In the MoU with the Tata Trusts, 15 care centres will come up in the State. This is a stepping stone in comprehensive cancer care,” said Patnaik.

The State Government had in May last year signed an MoU with the Tata Trusts, Mumbai to set up a state-of-the-art hospital and research centre. The Tata Trusts would set up and manage the facility, which would be benchmarked to the Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. The State Government would facilitate and contribute in setting up the centre by providing land to the extent of 25 acres free of cost, official sources said.

Among others, Health Minister Pratap Jena, MP Bhartruhari Mahtab and Banki MLA Pravat Tripathy were present on the occasion.
