The Congress party leaders and workers paid glowing tributes to the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and first Home Minister of the country, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, on their death and birth anniversaries respectively on Thurday. The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president, Pritam Singh, offered floral tributes to the statue of Indira Gandhi at Indira Market and garlanded the statue of Sardar Patel at Clock Tower on the day.
Singh said that Indira Gandhi played a pivotal role in taking the country ahead on path of development. He remembered nationalisation of banks, twenty-point programme and poverty alleviation as some of the achievements of the former Prime Minister. Singh also remembered her for the decisive win of India over Pakistan and creation of a separate nation of Bangladesh in the war of 1971. He added that Sardar Patel played a key role in unification of the princely States and laid the foundation of a strong India.
The leader of Opposition in State Assembly, Indira Hridayesh, former MLA Hira Singh Bisht, Matbar Singh Kandari, former MLA Ganesh Godiyal, vice president Surya Kant Dhasmana and other were present on the occasion.
