Given the uncertainty of the monsoon, the State Government has started preparations to help the farmers. Chief Secretary Dr. DK Tiwari instructed officials in an emergency meeting that by meeting the farmers, they should plan a strategy to provide them relief and needs within a week. He alerted all the Deputy Commissioners on this issue and instructed them to ensure availability of seeds and fertilizers in every district. He also instructed to increase the cultivation of low water crops. He instructed the agriculture department to be prepared for draught that may hit if it does not rain.
The Chief Secretary directed the MGNREGA Commissioner to ensure employment for villagers of the villages where cultivation will be affected due to less rains. The MGNREGA Commissioner said that under the Jal Shakti Yojna, 54 thousand new schemes are being implemented in the entire State and employment is also being created from people. He said that for the payment of wages, it has also got Rs 150 crore from the center, so instant wages are also being paid.
He said that in every village, short and long term schemes are being run by MNREGA.
Emphasising on dealing with the situation of drought, the Chief Secretary instructed the State Disaster Response Fund to provide Rs 350 crore to DCs within a week. Given the Drinking water Crisis issue that may also arise, the Chief Secretary instructed to complete the preparations for providing drinking water.
In this year Rs 100 crore have been spent on this and additional Rs 80 crore will be made available to the districts immediately.
According to data, the state has received 45 per cent less rainfall so far, which is less than last year.
It has affected eight districts which include Chatra, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Godda, Pakud, Ranchi, Saraikela-Kharsawan and Khunti. However, the rainfall is less and affected almost the entire State.
