Tension prevailed at Nuabazaar Chhak in the city when locals opposed officials of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) during a crackdown on polythene use on Monday.
Sources said that a CMC enforcement team was conducting raids at shops against illegal use of polythene in the market in the afternoon when some residents created a ruckus.
The CMC officials seized a truckload of polythene in the area, which irritated the locals and they locked up an official in a shop here.
On being informed, the Chauliaganj police reached the spot and rescued the civic body’s officer and began an investigation into the matter.
