DDA hurt sentiments of Dalit community: Cong

Thursday, 15 August 2019 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

Condemning the "demolition" of the '600-year-old' Guru Ravidas Mandir at Tughlaqabad by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Delhi Congress has also jumped into the fray on Wednesday, saying that the decision to demolish it was taken on the instance of  local BJP Member of Parliament and other party leaders.

Delhi Congress working president Rajesh Lilothia said that the Delhi Development Authority had hurt the sentiments of the Dalit community by demolishing the historic temple which has been a revered religious centre for the this community for centuries.

He said that the 12-bigha land for setting up the temple was donated by Sikhandar Lodhi in 1509 for the religious activities of the Dalit community.

It also exposed the narrow-mindedness and anti-Dalit policies of the BJP towards the marginalised people.
