Double murder over ‘witchcraft’ in Keonjhar

Wednesday, 21 August 2019 | PNS | KEONJHAR

A youth and an elderly man accused of practising witchcraft were beaten to death in Nenkadapalli village under the Bamebari police station in the district late on Monday night.

The deceased were identified a Subash Munda (60) and his nephew Chetan Munda (27).

Sources said one Rama Munda of the same village along with some other locals allegedly barged into their house and strangulated Subash to death. Later, they thrashed Chetan to death.

Rama was suspecting Chetan and Subash of performing black magic on his daughter who was repeatedly falling sick.

Later, when the condition of his daughter didn’t improve, he along with some other villagers hatched a plan to eliminate the uncle-nephew duo.

On receiving information, the Bamebari police rushed to the spot and detained the prime accused and one of his associate in the connection. But some of the other accused are still at large. Police refused to divulge any details regarding the incident.
