Dr Aruna resigns from dean post from GMC after students’ protest

Dr Aruna Kumar here on Tuesday evening resigned from the post of Dean, Gandhi Medical College (GMC), after four days of protests by students.  After, Dr Kumar’s resignation from the post, the students’ body is yet to call off its stir.

Protests began after a break-in and theft in girls’ hostel early on Saturday morning. The incident had caused sensations in the GMC campus.

Opposing the incident and demanding adequate security, the students went on indefinite strike. Hospital services were also crippled as the junior doctors had boycotted the work.

Dr Kumar confirmed her resignation and said that the incident is still being probed. Dr Kumar is a professor of obstetrics and gynaecology in the government-run medical college. She took charge as dean of GMC in December 2018.
