ECI directs to conduct 2 days voter verification

Chandigarh: In compliance with the directions of the Election Commission of India, the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab has directed all the Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers and all the Election Tehsildars to organise two days special camps for Voter Verification and Information Programme (VVIP) at all polling stations of the State on March 2 and 3. A spokesperson said in view of impending general election to Lok Sabha-2019, the Election Commission has directed to organise two-day special camps at all polling stations for Voter Verification and Information Programme (VVIP) so that further opportunity provided to all left out electors to get their names registered in the electoral rolls.

 Sarv Dharam Prarthna Sabha organised

Chandigarh: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of late Chief Minister Beant Singh, a Sarv Dharam Prarthna Sabha was organized at Beant Singh Memorial in Sector 42 here. People paid floral tributes to the former Chief Minister during the state-level remembrance meet held at the memorial. A pledge was undertaken to maintain the unity and integrity of the country and to end the menace of drugs, terrorism, separatism and corruption. A tribute was also paid to the soldiers who were killed in the attack in Pulwama.

Bansal writes to Governor VP Singh Badnore

Chandigarh:  In a letter to VP Singh Badnore,  Governor Punjab and Chandigarh Administrator, former MP Pawan Kumar Bansal has said that there is a need to appropriately honour the memory of distinguished ex-servicemen hailing from Chandigarh who have been awarded Param Vir Chakra,Mahavir Chakra ,Vir Chakra,Ashok Chakra,Kirti  Chakra or Shaurya Chakra . Bansal said that as the guardians of India’s borders and defending our frontiers with single-minded, unwavering patriotism, many of them even make supreme sacrifice of their lives at the alter of India’s unity and integrity.  Bansal said “Two Martyrs’ Memorials in the City have been good initiatives of Chandigarh to honour the brave soldiers but a little more could be done by naming some institutions or parks in the city after important ex-servicemen from the city who have rendered particularly stellar service.”

Date extended for applications by medal winners

Chandigarh: Haryana Sports and Youth Affairs Department has extended the last date for submission of applications by medal winners of national or international level in Senior, Junior and Sub-Junior categories on the basis of their sports achievements for the year 2017-18 and 2018-19 and in Junior and Sub-Junior categories for the year 2016-17, for receiving the cash prize. The last date has been extended to February 22 from February 12, 2019, earlier. The medal winners of national or international sports events could submit their applications in the office of their respective District Sports and Youth Affairs Programme Officer by February 22. For this, applications can be filled on haryanasports.gov.in.

Inter-state snatchers gang busted by Ropar Police

Chandigarh/Ropar: In a major breakthrough, Ropar Police on Monday busted an inter-state gang allegedly involved in more than 60 cases of snatching and theft in Patiala, Khanna, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mohali, Ropar and Bilaspur (Himachal Pradesh). The gang members, who are all under-matric and hail from Patiala city, were reportedly active in these districts for the last three years. Police has recovered more than 50 mobiles and six motorcycles from them. Baseball bats used to hit the victims have also been recovered from the accused, who had also attempted  ATM robberies, which are still being probed. Among them, Gurpreet and Aniket have several case of snatching, attempt to murder and murder registered against them in district Patiala. The others arrested are Jagpreet, Amandeep and Mangal Das.

HDFC Bank partners with Sonipat Police

Sonipat: HDFC Bank has partnered with Sonipat Police to launch a road safety initiative in the city namely ‘Traffic Paathshala’. The initiative aims to make Sonipat roads safer by creating awareness on the Do’s and Don’ts of road safety. At an event organized in the city, the initiative was inaugurated by Jitendra Kumar, DSP, Ramesh Chandra, SHO Traffic In-charge, along with Gaurav Marwah, Bank’s Cluster Head and branch managers, by flagging off a car rally of ‘TrafficPaathshala’ volunteers. Nearly three lakh people are expected to benefit from this initiative, which will cover city’s major road crossings such as Devi lal Chowk, Old DC Road, Maharana Pratap Chowk, Subhash Chowk, Malhana Chowk and Sriram Chowk. Groups of volunteers and HDFC Bank branded e-rickshaws would be stationed at the city’s busy traffic junctions including markets, residential localities, schools and colleges where they will  hold placards to encourage people to follow road safety rules.
