Left parties slam Centre for economic crisis, privatization

Tuesday, 15 October 2019 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

The Communist Party of India, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation and the All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) jointly staged a demonstration here on Monday over the economic crisis and the privatisation spree in the country.

The parties’ leaders said the economy of the country is in a bad shape. The unbridled privatisation of public sector companies by the Modi Government has not only destroyed the economy but has led to massive job losses.

They also said that the Government has accelerated privatisation of public sector undertakings, which include the ordinance factories, railways, thermal power corporations and the Air India.

CPI State secretary Ashish Kanungo said the Central Government, instead of taking corrective measures for the economy, is dishing out misinformation. The Modi Government is also not ready to accept that the unprecedented economic crisis in the country is due to the demonetisation and the GST, he added.

CPI(M) State secretary Ali Kishore Patnaik said that almost all sectors of the economy are now collapsing. The economic slowdown has led to unprecedented job losses, with women being the worst victims.

Among others, CPI national body members Ram Krushna Panda, Sura Jena, CPI(M) State committee members Suresh Panigrahi, Rabindra Tudu,  CPI (ML) Liberation State secretary Yudhistir Mahapatra, central committee member and former MLA Ramakant Sethi, State committee member Ashok Pradhan, AIFB State secretary Jyotiranjan Panigrahi, Narayan Daluka and Mahendra Parida were present.
