Maya: Special session being held to hide BJP govt’s failures

Thursday, 03 October 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati claimed that the government move to organise a special session of UP legislature to mark Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary was not to deliberate on his works or contribution but to divert public attention from failures of the BJP government.
In a tweet, Mayawati wrote, “Convening a special session of UP legislature on Gandhiji’s 150 birth anniversary is not to deliberate on his works but to hide the failures of its government by the BJP. This is why BSP has deployed its MLAs for public service to help flood victims.”
The BSP chief was referring to the absence of her party legislators from the special 36-hour session.
Taking a dig at the Congress over its Gandhi Sandesh Yatra on Wednesday, the BSP chief said, “In spite of being in power for the longest time in various states including UP and the Centre, when Congress could not realise Gandhiji’s dreams even a bit, then what can they now do by holding padyatra while being out of power. The same situation is being seen of the BJP. Public needs to remain vigilant.”
Meanwhile, in another tweet, Mayawati said on Wednesday that the Supreme Court’s decision on SC/ST Act had brought to the fore ‘bitter life realities’ and struggles of Dalit society and has also exposed the ‘Dalit love’ of the ruling BJP and the Congress.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court recalled its direction in the March 20, 2018 verdict which had virtually diluted provisions of arrest under SC/ST Act.
In another tweet, Mayawati said, “Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand are ranked lowest in the country in terms of school education ranking of the NITI Aayog. Will the parties which have ruled the country and the state for the longest time, especially Congress and BJP, be able to answer to the public on Gandhi Jayanti as to why there is such a shameful crisis.”
