Dhenkanal MP Mahesh Sahu has demanded establishment of a Kalinga Regiment in Odisha and sufficient coal washery plants in Talcher to create job opportunities for local youths.
Participating in a debate in the Lok Sabha, Sahu raised these issues and sought immediate steps by the Central Government.
Sahu said that though formation of a Kalinga Regiment is a longtime demand of the State, it remains ignored so far.
Similarly, he said the Central Government is getting maximum royalty from coal in Talcher but it has not taken steps for mitigating the local unemployment problem, which is acute.
He suggested that coal washeries can provide employments to many as there lies much scope for establishment of such units in Talcher from where coal is dispatched without being processed.
