NCPCR to arrange counseling for Board students

Sunday, 17 February 2019 | Kelly Kislaya | Ranchi

Counselors from leading institutions like AIIMS Delhi, Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi among others will counsel the students, who are appearing in class 10 or 12 Board examinations this year.

Chairperson of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), Priyank Kanoongo, who was in the city to participate in a programme on child rights said, “The counseling being conducted on behalf of NCPCR will commence from February 21 and will be organized thrice a week till the exams are over.”

The counseling will be unique in its own way as it will be done not in person or over phone but through live streaming on Facebook. “The one hour session will entertain questions from both students and parents. This will help people get in touch with such counsellors, fixing and appointment with whom can take more than a month,” Kanoongo said.

With most adolescents spending a lot of time on social media nowadays, the platform is likely to turn up to be one of the best counseling options. “As children from across the country, even the remotest parts, use social media, we are hoping to connect with the children from farthest places,” the NCPCR chairperson said.

Swabhiman Betiyan, a programme organized by Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) and Action against Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation of Children (ATSEC) was launched by Kanoongo on Saturday. With the examination season ongoing, copies of Exam Warriors, the book written by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was distributed among the girls of various Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) on the occasion.

President of BKS, Sanjay Mishra said, “1000 copies of the book will be sent across to all the 203 KGBVs in the state so that the studentscan access the book in their library easily.”

Kanoongo appreciated the efforts and said that he would share about this step of providing the books to students with other states.
