The polling station number 32 of Chandni Chowk which was made to undergo re-polling on Sunday left three major political parties disappointed. Out of the total 655 voters, only 276 (42.14 percentage) voters turned out to cast their vote in the repoll while in the general elections held on May 12, about 332 people had voted.
This time the voters turn out recorded a percentage of 42.14 per cent, eight points lesser than the previous elections held on May 12, which recorded a voter turnout of 50.69 per cent.
The re-poll was conducted from 7 am to 6 pm and voters will be distributed voter slips. The polling station recorded a turnout of 14.81 per cent in the first four hours between 7 am to 11 am.
The Election Commission on Thursday ordered directed the Chief Electoral Officer, Delhi, to carry out a repoll in the constituency on May 19 after the presiding officer deployed on this polling booth ‘forgot to delete the mock test votes’ which were cast during the mock poll held before the actual polling to test whether the EVM is working properly and at least 50 test votes are cast, one for each candidate. The mock poll started at 7am on May 12.
The Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha seat recorded 62.69 per cent turnout while this Chandni Chowk assembly segment recorded 42.14 percentage votes.
There were doubts raised about two polling stations in the constituency but the report had found repelling was needed only in one booth.
The Chandni Chowk parliamentary constituency saw a voter turnout of 62.69 per cent, the second highest after northeast Delhi constituency.
The BJP MP Harsh Vardhan is re-contesting for the Chandni Chowk seat and has been pitted against, Congress’ veteran leader Jai Prakash Agarwal and Aam Aadmi Party’s debut Pankaj Gupta.
