Over 3.1L hoardings removed for model code of conduct violation

The office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has removed a total number of 3,12,048 hoardings/banners/posters installed across the city since the model code of conduct came into force on March 10 for the Lok Sabha Elections 2019.

Out of these, 30,533 are removed from New Delhi Municipal Council, 43,075 from East Delhi Municipal Corporation, 2411 from Delhi Cantonment Board, 1,30,699 from South Delhi Municipal Corporation, and 1,05,330 from North Delhi Municipal Corporation.

As per the information shared by the  Delhi CEO, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has topped the list of violations of the Model Code of Conduct as the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has filed as many as 166 First Information Reports (FIRs), out of which, 22 against BJP, 20 are against AAP, eight against Congress and one against Bhaujan Samaj Party (BSP) and one against Samajwadi Party (SP).

The remaining 84 are against the heads of various political and non-political parties.

The statistics surveillance team of Delhi’s chief electoral office constituted to keep an eye on the expenses of political parties, has seized Rs 2,82,22850.

Till Date, 1361 bottles, 91 Half, 139589 quarters of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and 949 bottles, 1161 Half, 267806 quarters of Country liquor and 6797 bottles beer were seized. A total number of 934 FIR’s have been registered in Excise Act and 931 persons are arrested in Excise Act, said the official.

Further, a total of 337 FIR’s have been registered under Arms Act, in which 379 persons are arrested and 1338.3431 Kg. Narcotics/Drugs have been seized .

“Till date cash of Rs 2,82,22850/- has been seized by SST/FST, 448 numbers of unlicensed arms/weapons seized and 2630 numbers of cartridges/explosives/bombs seized. Whereas, 4582 licensed arms deposited, 72493 persons have been booked under various sections of CRPC/Delhi Police Act, as preventive action measures,” added the official.

The CEO office ahs further recorded about 28 cases against the violation in othercases (misuse of vehicles, violation of loudspeakers, illegal meetings and gratification of electors, etc).

Officials further added that they have received total number 1398 complaints through the ‘C-Vigil’ Application. “Out of the total complaints received from the citizens through the C-vigil App, almost 90 percent i., 1006 number of cases have been found correct,” they said.

The Lok Sabha polls in Delhi will held on May 12 and the overall results will be declared on May 23.

There are over 1.4 crore voters on Delhi’s electoral roll, out of which 2,04,420 are in the age group of 18-19, Singh had said, adding, out of the total electorate size of14,20,8,571, as many as 7817156 are male and 6390679 are female, while 736 belong to third gender. The number of overseas electors stands at 40.
