Two persons posing as police personnel allegedly looted gold ornaments from two women at CS College Square here on Monday.
The victims were identified as Vinodini Nayak and Urmila Nayak.
Sources said the women were walking along the college road when the motorbike-borne miscreants intercepted them. Claiming themselves as cops, they asked the women to take off their gold chain and other ornaments, warning them of the presence of looters in the area.
Believing the youths to be policemen, the women removed their gold chains, bangles and wrapped the ornaments in a paper. After returning home they realised that the gold ornaments were missing and subsequently they informed the matter to the Town police.
Police have registered a case regarding the incident and started an investigation.
