Odisha is a disaster-prone State; and keeping this in view, the Indian Red Cross Society Odisha State Branch in support with the IRCS NHQ and IFRC organised a three-day Social Emergency Response Volunteer (SERV) training for volunteers at the BJB Degree College, Gadaradanga, Brahmagiri in Puri from Tuesday.
Community volunteers are being trained in first-aid, disaster preparedness and disaster management in the three-day programme being held under the guidance of Indian Red Cross Society Odisha State Branch Secretary CTM Suguna.
The trained volunteers, trained by instructors Arun Das and Itishree Sundara, will be an asset for the society in case of any emergency. Disaster management in-charge Laxman Swain coordinated the programme.
BJB Degree College Principal Dr Debasis Jena encouraged the participants to develop true volunteerism with Red Cross ideology. As many as 52 volunteers will be trained in two
batches.
