The number of liquor shops in the national Capital has increased in the past five years, shows a data submitted by the Deputy Chie Minister Manish Sisodia in the Delhi legislative Assembly on Friday.
As per the data, in 2012-13, there were 682 liquors shops in the city, while the current number is 863 and the revenue collected from alcohol has gone up by Rs 780 crore since 2016- 17.
Sisodia who also holds the Finance portfolio, informed the Delhi Assembly that no new liquor store has been opened in the national capital after August 2016. He submitted the following the data and answered to the questions put by the Chandini Chowk Assembly MLA Alka Lamba.
Sisodia further added the revenue from alcohol has gone up by over Rs 780 crore since 2016-17.
As per the data shared by the government, the Excise Department has collected a total amount Rs 5,028.17 crore in 2018-19, Rs 4,551,17 in 2017-18, Rs 4244.50 in 2016-17, 4238.32 in 2015-16 and Rs 3,422.39 crore collected in the year 2014-15.
Further replying to Lamba's question on how many new liquor shops were open between 2015 and 2019, Sisdia said, "133, however, no new shop was opened after August 2016".
The data shows that in 2012-13, there were a total of 682 shops in Delhi a total number of 732 shops in 2013-14, 768 in 2014-15, 862 shops in 2015-16, 879 in 2016-17. While in the past two years it has been decreased, 866 shops in 2017-18 and decreased to 863 in 2018-19.
Sisdodia further said, about 37 shops were closed in the past years while 133 new were opened between 2-15-19 but not a single store opened after 2016.
