In a public interest litigation filed against encroachment on the Rispana and Bindal rivers in Dehradun, the high court of Uttarakhand has sought replies from the State Government, Central Government and Central Pollution Control Board within three weeks.
Dehradun resident Urmila Thapa had filed a PIL in the high court stating that encroaching on the Rispana and Bindal rivers, people had constructed even pucca homes. The garbage from such constructions is being dumped into the rivers. Encroachments have also been made on nullahs and smaller streams.
The petitioner has further stated that such developments are causing water logging in homes during the monsoon season. The petitioner has appealed that such encroachments be removed.
After hearing the petition, the division bench of chief justice Ramesh Ranganathan and justice Narayan Singh Dhanik sought replies from the government and pollution control board within three weeks.
