Teacher gang-raped in Dhamoh

Sunday, 08 December 2019 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

While the country is facing nationwide outrage against rape cases over Hyderabad and Unnao incidents, a school teacher was gang-raped in Sidhi district and a teenage girl committed suicide after persistent harassment from local youths in Damoh district of the State. Both the incidents were reported on Thursday.

Superintendent of Police Sidhi RS Belwanshi showing plenty of slackness made public the name and address of the victim while offering media bytes on the incident on Friday night.

Meanwhile, at Mhow, close to Indore, lawyers beat up the man accused of raping and killing a four-year-old inside the court campus as the police was taking the man to the court. The policemen however saved him from the assault and took him away.

The gang-rape incident however had taken place on Thursday when the school teacher was returning home from school at around 5pm and four local waylaid her and raped her one by one at a nearby farmhouse.

Taking the unconscious teacher to be dead, the men fled the spot and later the victim reached her home and narrated her ordeal to the family who lodged a complaint with Rampur Naikin police.

Panicked, the senior police officers swung into action and later the police arrested four accused—Bachchu Lonia, Beeru Lonia, Narendra Lonia and Shiv Shankar Lonia.

All the four are history sheeters and have their different crimes registered in local police stations against their names.

In the other incident, a 17-year-old girl ended her life jumping into a pond in Damoh on Thursday. The girl allegedly was sexually harassed by some local men.

Damoh SP Vivek Singh told the media that a case has been lodged in connection with the suicide and family and neighbours’ statements are being recorded so that the persons responsible for the death could be arrested.

The girl was harassed by some local boys who had threatened her to abduct her from home, one of the girls’ relative told the media.
