Verbal spat between BJP MLAs continues

Monday, 15 April 2019 | PNS | Haridwar

The war of words between two Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs in Haridwar district- Pranav Singh ‘Champion’ and Deshraj Karnwal shows no signs of abating. The verbal spat between Singh who represents Khanpur and Karnwal who represents Jhabreda has been escalating for some time now with both making controversial statements against each other. The statements being made by the two MLAs against each other are causing discomfort for the party with a difference as the discipline it is known for is being shred by such open allegations and counter-allegations, opine observers.

While Singh has been alleging that Karnwal had submitted a fake caste certificate, the Jhabreda MLA has been alleging that Singh’s qualifications are fake and that he is no champion. The Khanpur MLA has now reportedly also alleged that the State Government is ignoring the other backward classes.

This is not the first time he has questioned the BJP state government. Earlier, before the party had declared candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, he had alleged that developmental works had not been executed in the Haridwar parliamentary constituency.

The verbal spat between Singh and Karnwal has been escalating for about a fortnight now. Recently, the Khanpur MLA had challenged his Jhabreda counterpart to a bout at the Nehru stadium in Roorkee.

While Karnwal reportedly went to the stadium on Saturday morning and left after waiting for some time, Singh also went to the stadium later in the day and returned after waiting for some time. Later at a Press conference, Karnwal had stated that the era of settling disputes through wrestling was past and gestured pressing a trigger with his finger while stating that this was how disputes are now settled.
