From Motorhaat, a startup which provides a platform for pre-owned automobiles to Reweuse Solutions which expertise in recycling plastic and e-waste, a number of Jharkhand based startups got a chance to pitch in their business ideas in front of director of American Centre Kolkata, Monica Shie on Wednesday.

As many as 17 startups based in Jharkhand pitched their business ideas in a span of two minutes each, with help of slideshows and were given points based on their presentation skills by the people in audience and officers of the US consulate present.

The different parameters on which the entrepreneurs were ranked were not on the type of business idea but the factors like how much interesting can they their pitch sound and how organized their presentation was.

The US Consulate General Kolkata, in collaboration with Atal Bihari Vajpayee Innovation Lab (ABVIL), organised a five day workshop on business communications for entrepreneurs of Jharkhand which concluded on Wednesday.

A group of 17 entrepreneurs, both men and women, were trained by American trainer Dieter Bruhn, a dynamic and passionate trainer, educator, leader, entrepreneur and cross-cultural expert with more than 25 years of global training experience.  With Master’s degrees in both International Trade and Teaching English as a Second Language, Bruhn has a strong understanding of both global business and education.

He said, “Entrepreneurship development is a prove strategy that positively impacts the lives of young people.”

The highlight of the programme was preparing the participants to deliver an organized and well polished business pitch in front of live audience.

In the first three days of the workshop, the participants learnt about networking, negotiating, business etiquette, effective presentation skills, elevator pitches, and formal pitches. During the last two days, Bruhn worked with the participants on refining their final pitches for public show-casing. This helped the participants determine what speech to use with different type of audience, how to create an engaging presentation and how to pitch a winning business idea.

During the event, Monica Shie said, “We at the US consulate have seen the dynamic entrepreneurial climate in Eastern India and would like to continue our partnership through professional development course.”

Karan Raj Mehta, founder of Hello Doctor, a Dhanbad based startup which provides an appointment scheduling service, wherein patients can book an appointment with the best doctors of the town online said, “The workshop

proved to be very informative and has helped me learn a lot more about presenting my work in a much better way than I usually would do.”
