Maha deaths rise to 213, infection cases mount to 8,151

In a rise in the number of deaths and infections, as many as 213 more people died of Covid-19 and 8,151 others tested positive for the pandemic in various parts of the state on Tuesday.   

A day after the state logged 125 deaths and 5984 infected cases, Maharashtra witnessed an increase of 88 deaths in the number of fatalities to take3 the tally to 213 and a rise of 2167 in the number of infections to take the tally of new cases to 8,151.

With 213 fresh deaths, the Covid-19 toll rose from 42,240 to 42,453. Similarly with 8,151 new infections, the total infected cases jumped from 16,01,365 to 16,09,516.

On a day when 7,429 people were discharged from various hospitals in the state, the number of people discharged from various hospitals after full recovery since the second week of March this year went up to 13,92,308.

The recovery rate in the state rose from 86.48 per cent to 86.50 per cent.

Of the 213 fresh deaths, Pune  accounted for a maximum of  58 deaths, followed by 45 in Mumbai, 13 in Nagpur, 12 each in Thane and Nashik, and 10 in Satara.

In the lower range, there were seven deaths in Osmanabad, 6 in Solapur, 5 each in Kolhapur, Latur, Washim and Bhandara, 4 each in Palghar, Jalna and Yavatmal, 3 in Chandrapur, 2 each in Raigad, Ahmednagar, Jalgaon, Beed, Nanded and Wardha and one each in Dhule, Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri.

With 45 deaths, the Covid-19 in Mumbai rose from 9,819 to 9,864 while the infected cases shot up by 1,091 to trigger a jump in the number of infections from 243,169 to 244,260.

Meanwhile, the mortality rate in the state stood at 2.64 per cent. The number of “active cases” in the state rose from 1,73,759 to 1.74,265.

Pune district, which continued to be the worst-affected city-district in Maharashtra, saw the total number of cases increase from 3,24,267 to 3,25,379, while the total number of deaths in Pune increased from 6503 to 6561.

Thane district remained in the third spot --after Pune and Mumbai - after the total number of infections from 2,12,765 to 2,13,700, while the pandemic toll  rose from 5,211 to 5223.

Out of 82,51,234 samples sent to laboratories, 16,09,516 have tested positive (19.56 per cent) for Covid-19 until Tuesday.

Currently, 24,34,687 people are in home quarantine while 23,488 people are in institutional quarantine.
