In order to know who is who in films that have sequels it is important to see the original. However, there are always exceptions to the rule and this latest movie on the OTT platform comes under this category. There are a few reasons. First, in order for the people to follow the thread, it opens with the lead protagonist — Elle — telling us where part one left off and what all had happened. Second, all through there are references to the past. This makes it easy. Also, these movies are based on Beth Reekles’ Young Adult books about teen romance. It really doesn’t need too much introspection except to know whether the boy and the girl stay together or not.
While the first was all about kissing and falling in love, this one is all about making long distance relationships work, trying to act mature even though the green monster raises its head that leads to a few tears. But what is teen romance if it doesn’t come with its share of tears, angst and heartbreak.
But at the heart of it is the fundraiser and the kissing booth where kids find out who their true love is. The movie is named The Kissing Booth for a reason.
If you are in a mood to watch a romantic movie, this one fits perfectly — it is cute and sweet.
