nTen lakh children in five districts of Chhattisgarh will get Japanese encephalitis vaccine, the Health Department said on Monday.

Health Minister T.S. Singh Deo virtually launched the Japanese encephalitis vaccination drive from his official residence here and said children in Bastar, Bijapur, Dantewada, Kondagaon and Dhamtari will get the vaccine till December 18.

During the drive, all children above 15 years will be given the vaccine, a press release said.

“The drive will help prevent deaths caused by Japanese encephalitis. Earlier also, in Bastar, a similar drive was launched which           controlled the spread of the disease,” Singh Deo said.

He said that parents should be aware of diseases like Japanese encephalitis. Prevention is the best safeguard against such sickness. The government is       trying to stop its spread to children through    vaccination, he added.

Singh Deo lauded the efforts of the      Health Department’s ground staff for reaching the hinterlands and    serving people. He    mentioned that the department staff had a major role to play in ‘Malaria Mukt Bastar Abhiyan’.
