16 fresh positive cases reported in Chandigarh, recovery rate declines

A day after the COVID-19 positive cases crossed the 500-mark in Chandigarh, the deadly virus continued to spread its tentacles in the city with 16 fresh cases reported on Thursday. 

The fresh cases have been reported from Sectors 19, 27, 38, 40, 45, 51, 52, 55 and Manimajra in the city. The total number of positive cases now stands at 523 which include 113 active cases.

“16 persons have been tested positive on Thursday in Chandigarh. Currently, there are 113 active COVID-19 cases in the city,” stated Chandigarh Health Department’s evening bulletin. 

Giving details of the positive cases, the bulletin stated, “Four members of a family in Sector 38 tested positive for COVID-19. The patients included two males aged 14 and 31 years and two females aged 40 and 59 years. They are the family members of a previously positive patient- 67 years old male in the same house.”  An eight months old female child and two females aged 17 and 32 years have been tested positive in Manimajra. They are family contacts of previously positive cases living in the same building.

 Two members including a 31 years old male and 65 years old male from a family in Sector 55 were also tested positive. They have four family contacts and a maid, who are being sampled for testing.

A 45 years old male from Sector 19 and a 37 years old male from Sector 27 also tested positive.

In Sector 40, an 11-year old girl was tested positive and an 80-year old woman from Sector 51 was also found infected. Both are  family contacts of previously tested positive patients, the bulletin stated.

Among other cases, a 32 years old male from Sector 52 was found positive. In Sector 45, one female aged 31 years and male aged 28 years tested positive. They have six family contacts and all of them are asymptomatic. 

RECOVERY RATE COMES DOWN IN CHANDIGARH

With continuous surge in the number of COVID-19 positive cases in the city, the recovery rate has declined to 77 percent. On July 3, Chandigarh was on the top of the list of states and union territories in the country with around 86 percent recovery rate of COVID-19 patients.

Out of total 523 COVID-19 cases, 403 have recovered till date. The city has so far reported seven COVID-19 related fatalities. A total of 9096 samples have been tested till date in Chandigarh.

FOUR NURSING OFFICERS QUARANTINED IN PGIMER

Four nursing officers have been put under quarantine after coming in contact with a COVID-19 positive patient in PGIMER.  “A patient named Pritpal, 70 years old male from Shekhupr, Ropar was admitted in ATC OPD on July 6 for some neurosurgical ailment.
