44 fresh Covid-19 cases reported, migrant dies

Forty-four fresh Covid-19 positive cases were reported on Saturday from different parts of Chhattisgarh, a day after a 45-year-old migrant who had returned from Pune on May 21 died at the Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS).

Also, two patients were discharged from AIIMS Raipur on Saturday after their recovery from the deadly virus, health officials said.

With the detection of 44, the total number of active Covid-19 cases in Chhattisgarh has jumped to 152. Rajnandgaon district reported the maximum of 10 cases on Saturday. One doctor of CIMS Bilapsur has been tested positive.

Mungeli accounted for 9 cases, Bilaspur 9, Kora and Raigarh 4 each, Surguja 3 while 2 cases were found in the newly formed Gaurela Pendra Marwahi. while Baloda Bazaar and Jashpur saw 1 patient each.

Currently, 42 patients are admitted in AIIMS Raipur, 25 in Covid Hospital Mana Raipur, 19 in Covid Hospital Bilaspur, 7 in Ambikapur Medical College, 9 in Raigarh Medical College and 11 in Rajnandgaon Medical College. A total of 44,184 people are in home quarantine.

According to reports, the man who died had returned to Bilaspur by Shramik Special train and was sent to a quarantine centre at Masturi.

As his health deteriorated, with the man suffering from cough and cold as well as fever, he was shifted to CIMS, Bilaspur.

But he died before his coronavirus related test report came.

Chief Medical and Health Officer Bilaspur Dr Pramod Mahajan said: "The same was sent for testing. The report is awaited." Only when it comes, the reason for death can be confirmed.

The Health Department has kept the body in mortuary and sealed it.
