The National Green Tribunal on Saturday ordered the Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) and the Andhra Pradesh Government to hold a meeting with the States of Odisha, Telangana and Chhattisgarh to address their apprehensions on the Polavaram Dam project over the Godavari river.
The Central Water Commission (CWC) and the Godavari Water Dispute Tribunal along with the PPA and the Andhra Pradesh Water Resource Department were asked to jointly convene a meeting with the upstream States within two months.
The upstream States would put forth the anticipated Polavaram project impacts on them which are likely to be examined to devise appropriate measures to safeguard the dam and as well as interests of the upstream States.
Notably, Odisha has been opposing the construction of the dam by Andhra Pradesh citing that the project would cause permanent harm to the interest of the State and its people.
