Ajoy Kumar returns to Congress party

Monday, 28 September 2020 | Mrituanjay Kumar | Ranchi

IPS officer-turned-politician Ajoy Kumar, who had resigned from the position of Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) after Lok Sabha polls last year, returned to the Congress Party on Sunday. Inspired by former party president Rahul Gandhi, he decided to return to the Congress, Kumar said.

Kumar announced his return on his official Twitter handle. He tweeted a statement of Mahatma Gandhi and wrote, 'Silence becomes cowardice when, on the demand of time, you do not utter the truth and do not behave accordingly. -Mahatma Gandhi.'

Kumar also wrote, "At a time when there is a need to speak out openly against injustice and occupation of institutions, Rahul Gandhi inspired me and I decided to return to the Congress today.

After leaving Congress Party, Kumar had joined Aam Admi Party (AAP).

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) defeated Congress led alliance in which other alliance partners were Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). The Congress could managed to win only one seat, while the JMM could win one seat.

After the results of the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress was divided into two groups. One was led by Kumar and the other was headed by former Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahai. After a clash between party workers, the leaders of both the groups also had a meeting in New Delhi.

Kumar had alleged that Sahai and other leaders were trying to get tickets for family members in the Lok Sabha elections and the upcoming assembly elections.

In the letter sent to Rahul Gandhi, Kumar made his point in a very sharp tone. He had said that he has received gallantry awards as IPS but as allies get him, even the worst criminals look better than him. He alleged that party workers were loyal to the leaders, not the Congress.

Current JPCC Chief Rameshwar Oraon had said that all those who have left the Congress cannot join the Congress again for the next six years. In such a situation, now the speculation of Sukhdev Bhagat, Pradeep Balmuchu, Manoj Yadav coming again in the Congress is rife.
