A day after the Punjab Assembly struck down key provisions of the Centre's new farm laws, the Chhattisgarh Assembly secretariat on Wednesday issued a notification for two-day special session on October 27-28 despite objections from the BJP.
According to the notification issued by the Principal Secretary of the Assembly, the session has been called for two days in which official works will be taken up.
Earlier, the Governor had raised certain queries regarding the proposal by the Congress government to hold the special session.
On Tuesday, the Chief Minister told the media that the BJP was trying to politicise the issue. The queries raised by the Governor will be resolved and the file will be sent to her again.
The BJP has submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer of Chhattisgarh that the special session should not be held ahead of the November 3 Marwahi by-election. The session can take policy decisions which can influence the voters in Marwahi, it said.
Agriculture Minister and government spokesperson Ravindra Choubey has said the session will be called to protect the rights of farmers, poor and labourers in the context to the farm bills and the labour law amendment passed by the Centre.
The Congress-led Punjab Government has already passed the bills against the central laws with the backing of all the opposition parties barring the BJP.
