Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the ambitious Har Ghar Jal Project under Jal Jeevan Mission would be implemented in four phases across Uttar Pradesh by 2022 and the government was committed to completing this project within the stipulated time frame so that people could get clean drinking water.
“The state government has given priority to the Har Ghar Jal project which has been launched in three districts of Bundelkhand on June 30. The work in the remaining four districts of Bundelkhand will start soon,” the chief minister said during his meeting with Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat through video conferencing on Wednesday.
He said under Jal Jeevan Mission, potable water would be made available in Bundelkhand and Vindhya regions and those areas which were infected with arsenic, fluoride, Japanese Encephalitis and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome. “The project will be implemented in four phases by 2022,” the CM said, adding that work would be carried out by experienced companies in a transparent manner through open tender.
“The Uttar Pradesh government has also set up the Jal Shakti department on lines of Union government so that Jal Jeevan Mission can be taken forward on the lines of Swachh Bharat Mission. Monthly meetings are held to review the progress made under the Jal Jeevan Mission. This helps us to review whether we are working as per the guidelines or not,” Chief Minister said.
Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier announced that Jal Jeevan Mission should be completed by 2024 but it had been preponed to 2022 so that people could get clean drinking piped water.
“Money will not be a problem for this mission. We hope the UP government will be able to meet the deadline,” Shekhawat said.
UP’s Jal Shakti Minister Mahendra Singh and Union Jal Shakti Secretary Parmeshwaran Aiyyar and senior officers from UP government also attended this meeting.
