Fire breaks out at Rev Board office in Cuttack
Cuttack: A fire broke out at the Board of Revenue Office building here on Saturday. The incident occurred in the third floor of the building creating panic among officials. As per preliminary information, the fire erupted from a burning cigarette dumped in a washroom. Two firefighting teams were pressed into action to douse the flame.
UTP dies in hospital in Balangir
Balangir: Srinibas Sahu, an under-trial prisoner (UTP) of the Balangir District Jail died at the Bhimbhoi Medical College Hospital here on Saturday after hours of being admitted to the hospital in the morning. Sahu had been lodged in the jail since February 2018. On Saturday, he complained of uneasiness. The jail doctor after checking him decided to shift to the college hospital. “The exact cause of the death would be known after postmortem,” District Jail Superintendent Aruna Minz told reporters.
Rs 1-cr ganja seized from truck in Nayagarh
Nayagarh: A team of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Bhubaneswar, seized ganja worth as much as over Rs 1 crore from a truck in Nayagarh district late on Friday night. The officials detained the truck driver for interrogation in this connection. Sources said the contraband was being smuggled from Koraput to Bhubaneswar in the wood-laden truck. Acting on a tipoff, the DRI officials with help of the Nayagarh police intercepted the vehicle on the NH-57 under the Banigochha police limits and seized 39 sacks of ganja.
Drunk M’bhanj cop suspended as video goes viral
Baripada: An Odisha Auxiliary Police Force (OAPF) Constable was suspended after a video of his misconduct in public in a drunken condition surfaced on social media and went viral on Friday. The accused Gagan Bihari Nayak was placed under suspension by Mayurbhanj SP Smit P Parmar. Nayak deployed at Hingula Puja in Badasahi. The constable had also taken off his shirt and scolded locals.
PMAY scam: Villagers lock GP EO in Pallahara
Pallahara: Alleging scam in PMAY, villagers of Khemala GP locked the GP Executive Officer’s office on Friday. Pallahara BDO Rabindra Majhi informed this to the Khamar PS and then rushed to the spot. In the presence of police and the BDO, the villagers opened the lock. The villagers alleged before the BDO that the proposed PMAY list is full of irregularities. The BDO told them that the block administration would enquire into the matter.
Girl found hanging in Bhadrak
Bhadrak: A young girl was found hanging at a rented house at Acharya Nagar under the Bhadrak Town police station on Friday. The deceased was identified as Monalisa Sethi, who was staying with her brother and sister-in-law at a rented house. She allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself with her veil while nobody was at the house. The body was recovered by police in the presence of a Magistrate and sent for autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.
