Negi seeks probe in management of Buddhist school & Madarsa

Friday, 30 October 2020 | PNS | Dehradun

The chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Usha Negi has directed the police to investigate a Budhhist school and a Madarsa in Dehradun district after she found several anomalies in the management of these institutes during a recent inspection. Recently, the commission received a complaint letter from the parents of an eight year old child according to which the child was purportedly beaten in a Madarsa in Vikasnagar during the class. Another case was brought into Negi's consideration in which seven Nepalese children allegedly fled from Buddhist school situated in Purkul to Banbasa after being beaten up by the teachers. Negi said that these institutes were running even during the lockdown when no education institute was allowed to provide physical education due to Covid-19 pandemic. The commission has confiscated all the records like registers, logs and CCTV footages to get more information about the situation in these bodies. Talking about the issue in the Budhhist school, Negi said that the Nepalese children in this school asked to go to Nepal during Dussehra as they have been here since before the lockdown.

"Why are these children not registered in the embassy of Nepal? Why have they not been sent back to Nepal since March? The school has made Aadhaar cards for these children when they are here just for their studies from Nepal and not to be a citizen. Besides, when these seven children ran away from the school, the management did not bother to file any police complaint. Who would have taken the responsibility if the police wouldn't have found these children on time," questioned Negi. She has directed police to investigate both the institutes and verify the information of children mentioned in documents. Negi also expressed her disappointment with the education department which let such institutes run during the pandemic when regular physical classes are closed in all the education institutes. Meanwhile, Negi added that she will also write to the Home Ministry soon regarding the management of children in such institutes where the children from other countries are being converted into Indian citizens and no one is paying attention to it.
